Overview

Radiesse is a calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) dermal filler and collagen biostimulator manufactured by Merz Aesthetics. It consists of CaHA microspheres suspended in an aqueous carboxymethylcellulose gel, delivering immediate volume together with progressive collagen stimulation. It is widely used for facial contouring and carries FDA-approved indications including moderate-to-severe facial folds, jawline contour and hand augmentation.

How it works

Radiesse works through two mechanisms. The carboxymethylcellulose gel provides immediate volume correction on injection, while the CaHA microspheres act as a scaffold that stimulates fibroblasts to produce new type I and III collagen, elastin and neovascularisation over the following weeks and months. As the gel carrier is resorbed, the newly generated collagen sustains the corrective and skin-quality effect.

Indications

  • Moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds
  • Jawline and lower-face contouring
  • Hand rejuvenation and dorsal hand volumising
  • Skin laxity and quality via diluted biostimulation
  • Facial volume loss and age-related collagen loss

Key features

  • Dual action: immediate volume plus collagen biostimulation
  • CaHA microspheres (25 to 45 microns) in resorbable CMC gel carrier
  • Ready-to-use; can be diluted or hyperdiluted for skin and hands
  • Stimulates type I and III collagen, elastin and neovascularisation
  • FDA-approved for facial folds, jawline contour and hand augmentation

Benefits

  • Backed by Merz, an established global manufacturer with extensive clinical literature
  • Single product covers both contouring and regenerative skin-quality treatments
  • Longevity typically around 12+ months supports patient value and retention
  • Versatile dilution protocols broaden the range of treatable indications
  • Strong regulatory and safety track record supports clinic credibility

Composition

30% synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres (25 to 45 microns) suspended in a 70% aqueous carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) gel carrier (sterile water, glycerin, sodium carboxymethylcellulose).

Usage & handling

Supplied ready-to-use and can be diluted or hyperdiluted for skin biostimulation and hand treatment. Inject into the deep dermis, subdermal or supraperiosteal plane depending on indication and massage to mould. Not indicated for lip augmentation. Provides immediate volume with additional collagen-driven improvement that builds over weeks to months.
