Overview

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a botulinum toxin type A from Merz, notable for being free of complexing proteins - often called the 'naked toxin.' It delivers only the pure active neurotoxin molecule, a formulation intended to reduce foreign-protein exposure. It is approved for aesthetic and therapeutic indications.

How it works

IncobotulinumtoxinA cleaves SNAP-25 to inhibit acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction, temporarily relaxing the treated muscle. Removal of complexing proteins does not alter the core mechanism of action.

Indications

  • Glabellar (frown) lines
  • Crow's feet and forehead lines
  • Cervical dystonia
  • Blepharospasm
  • Upper limb spasticity

Key features

  • Complexing-protein-free 'naked' 150 kDa toxin
  • Low foreign-protein content
  • Lyophilised powder for reconstitution
  • 50/100/200 U vial strengths
  • Room-temperature storage before reconstitution (per label)

Benefits

  • Minimal accessory-protein load, positioned to reduce immunogenic potential
  • Established brand with strong therapeutic and aesthetic evidence
  • Convenient pre-reconstitution storage flexibility
  • Predictable, well-characterised clinical performance

Composition

Active ingredient is the pure 150 kDa botulinum neurotoxin type A, free from complexing (accessory) proteins, with human serum albumin and sucrose as excipients. Supplied as a lyophilised powder in 50 U, 100 U and 200 U vials.

Usage & handling

Reconstitute with preservative-free 0.9% saline before injection. Xeomin can be stored at room temperature prior to reconstitution per its labelling, then handled per instructions after reconstitution. Units are product-specific and not interchangeable with other toxins.
